Kits

SMTS’s replicas have always been available in kit form as well as made-up, finished models.

And, of course, for many this is the preferred option. As we here know all too well, there’s nothing more satisfying than creating a beautiful finished model from its raw components.

For some people, it’s simply a lot more rewarding than opening a box!

For accomplished and experienced modellers, our kits will hold no surprises. Typically, an SMTS kit will comprise between 40 and 70 white metal parts, plus of course, tyres, screens, headlights, photo-etched trim, wheels, waterslide transfers and so on.

To complete one of our models you will need a toolkit that contains needle files, miniature drills, wet and dry paper, tweezers, a modelling knife, small scissors, miniature screwdrivers, adhesives and paint.

You should expect to undertake a small amount of ‘fettling’ prior to painting, but if you’re already a model-maker, this is no more than you would anticipate.

When it comes to painting, we suggest the use of automotive paints in aerosol form. We always recommend commencing with a primer coat, followed by three or four light coats of colour.

Normally, one would then use modelling paints for detailing.

In most cases, the main components on a car will be held together with the self-tapping screws that come supplied. The smaller, detailed parts can then be put in place using super-glue and/or a standard contact adhesive.

Although our stock levels do vary, we should have available kit versions for nearly all of the ready-built replicas featured on the website.

But we may also have other kits available from previous productions.

If you have any questions about a particular kit, or just want an up to date list of available stock, email us at smts.models@btconnect.com.
